![]() One of the great things about living in Pensacola is that you get to see these guys so often. In fact they've kind of become one of the symbols of the city. I live right off of Blue Angel Parkway, there's a Blue Angel Elementary School not far away and during the season, the house often gets buzzed on Tuesday and Wednesday morning by the Blues as they practice. Since I'm working nights right now, I finally took advantage of this free entertainment and headed down to the Naval Air Station with the Rebel XT Tuesday morning. There were a few hundred other people, mostly seniors and field trippers, out behind the National Museum of Naval Aviation taking in the practice session. It's nothing like the crowds that pack Pensacola Beach for the annual July show, or this same NAS flight line for the November show. (You read it right, we get two full blown air shows a year here.) So, you have lots more elbow room to watch the Blue Angels do their thing. I don't, but if I needed anything to remind me that I'm still a kid at heart, this is one of those maneuvers that would do it. This guy is turning some pretty high g's as he goes 360 degrees with the plane on its edge. That's impressive enough, but I think the vapor contrail that forms on the wings during this move is really cool. | |
