Selective Liberal Coverage

Penguins win! Penguins win! Penguins win! Now Opus can relax on the Channel 3 lawn because the Penguins have won the Stanley Cup. Had he been there this afternoon as depicted in this image, he would have had a hard time missing the Tea Party folks protesting along Mobile Highway. I'm not sure what they were trying to say. The only sign I saw that had any bearing on us was 'ABC-TV3 Selective Liberal Coverage.' There are certainly some liberals in the building, and quite a few conservatives too. In fact my boss is pretty darn conservative and he runs the newsroom. However, I wouldn't characterize our news coverage as fitting into either one of those camps. More puzzling were the following signs: 'Nationalize the Federal Reserve' - huh? 'Impeach Obama' - Under what grounds? What does he have to do with us? 'No Martial Law. No FEMA Camps.' - Again, huh? I'm not sure what point they were trying to make. Maybe they were hoping someone would come out and give them some attention. If that was it, this is all they're going to get.

Though the Opi are still supporting their beloved Pittsburgh Penguins against the dreaded Detroit Red Wings, gainingFOCUS feels a change is in order to break the bad mojo of last night's 5 - 0 debacle. So, we give you this Spanish sailor waving to the crowd at Palafox Pier as he prepares to bring down the colors for the night on the tall ship Juan Sebastian de El Cano. We were treated to a beautiful moonrise behind the ship last night, which is what drew me down there with the trusty Canon Rebel xti. Lots of folks were taking pictures. This is my first offering, more to come.

Pensacola Beach Sign for Metrovision

I recently went out and took some shot of local landmarks to use in our weather system for forecast graphics. These are the day and night shots of the Pensacola Beach Sign. Ultimately I cut out the sky and those ugly power lines for the versions we use on the air. The weather people add temperature, winds and sky condition animations to use in their weathercasts. It's all kind of cool.

Yes fan Carmack, we at gainingFOCUS realize no new pictures have appeared in a while. We're sorry about that, but with the economy and the swine flu and Madonna's inability to get her way in all things adoption, we've just not been able to feed the beast that is your hunger for fresh content. Sure, we could have posted any old picture (some would say we do that anyway), but our artistic integrity is at stake here (yeah right) and just any old shot would not do. Having said all that, here's another shot from our honeymoon trip in 2005. This is basically a snapshot from the window of a moving bus as we approached Florence. It doesn't suck though. (at least we don't think so) And don't forget to catch Carmack and his amazing weather forecasting kung fu on Channel 3 News every weekend and whenever Allen and Christian don't feel like working. gainingFOCUS out!

I haven't shot anything new in a while and I realize the site has been stagnant as a result. Here's a shot from our honeymoon cruise trip back in 2005. This is the cathedral or duomo - Santa Maria del Fiore and Baptistery in Florence, Italy. Work began on the Gothic cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in 1296 and was completed by Brunelleschi in 1436 with the famous Dome, (not in this shot) which was painted inside with frescoes by Vasari and Zuccari. The square Bell tower designed by Giotto in 1334 stands on the right-hand side of the Cathedral and is covered in white, green and red marble.

This is our new dog Suzie Q. We thought maybe a companion would help to calm Wilbur down. I'm not sure that is what happened, but the two became fast friends. They sometimes just ignore us humans and play together endlessly. The good news, nothing in the house is getting chewed to bits, so that's a big improvement. Suzie Q is a little smaller than Wilbur and she's about a year older. When they're going at it, he sometimes seems to be getting the better of her, but don't be fooled. As this sassy expression shows, she's a bit of a smarty pants. She definitely gets in her licks and bites too. On the subject of licks, we think she must be French. If you bend down to pet her, she immediately goes for the kiss. Not an ordinary kiss mind you, but a full on tongue in the mouth. I think she's going to be a great addition to the family, even though Lily the cat isn't so sure.
